No longer hampered by the cares of their time, they are free to explore. Then again, nothing is ever free and there are risks involved. Characters need to understand the history of the time period they find themselves in. To be able to work with the traditions and standards of the time will prove useful. Differences may be found between the characters physically and mentally and how they work these out can be an important part of the story. Then there are always time travel rules to be aware of. Altering the past of the world as a whole or the character’s personal time line could damage the world they came from. Just when the characters seem to have overcome all the obstacles they face the greatest challenge. What happens when it’s time to return home? Will they both stay in the past? Can they both return to the future? Are they destined to be happy together or apart?
Time travel romances take the character and reader out of their modern world and into a different time. Readers can enjoy the historical feel of being in another time and place. They can put themselves in place of the character, work through their struggles and find that love can conquer all.
